Built in 1313 by King Erik Menved after the suppression of a Jutland peasant revolt, the castle served as a symbol of royal strength and as a means of keeping the rebellious Jutlanders under control. <\/p><p>Visitors can reach the ruin via a 500 meter long cobbled causeway \u2013 Denmark&#8217;s oldest medieval road \u2013 that connects the peninsula to the mainland.
