Fregatten Jylland is a historic naval vessel from 1860—built for war, used as a royal ship, and preserved as a museum. Today it lies at the quay in Ebeltoft, where you can move through the ship’s many decks and experience sailors’ life, craftsmanship, and maritime technology from a pivotal period in Denmark’s history—the Schleswig Wars.

Let the children explore with the ship’s boy Karl, who has lost his pocketknife somewhere on board.

Sailing trip in Ebeltoft Bay
In the summer months, you can head out on Ebeltoft Bay in the museum’s open rowing-and-sailing boat—a sailboat with room for 12 people.

Living craftsmanship
The museum’s craftspeople maintain the frigate year-round with traditional ship carpentry, rope-making, and tarring.

Shop and restaurant
Also stop by the museum shop, which offers a selection of maritime gifts and classic souvenirs.

Facts about the frigate
Fregatten Jylland is 102 metres long and has a deck width of around 14 metres. The masts rise more than 50 metres into the air, and the hull extends almost 6 metres below the waterline. Today the ship stands on land in a dry dock, making it possible to walk all the way around it and truly sense its impressive size—both inside and out.
