The Rediscovered Bridge, also known as “The Forgotten Bridge,” is a fascinating historical gem located by the Gudenå River near Brædstrup in East Jutland. The bridge was originally built in 1899 as part of the railway line between Horsens and Bryrup. With its impressive steel structure and arch shape, it was an engineering feat for its time and an important part of the area’s infrastructure. The bridge, which is 13 meters high and 50 meters long, was built to carry trains over the river and its surrounding landscape.
When the railroad was closed in 1968, the bridge became redundant. Instead of being removed, it was buried under a dam and forgotten by the public. It lay hidden for almost 50 years until it was rediscovered in 2014 during maintenance work in the area. The rediscovered bridge quickly became the subject of great interest and was restored with respect for its historical values.
Today, the bridge is a popular attraction and part of the Bryrup-Vrads nature trail, which follows the old railway line. Visitors can walk on the bridge and enjoy stunning views of the surrounding nature, characterized by beautiful woodlands and the Gudenå river. The area also offers tables and benches, making it an ideal place for a picnic or a quiet moment in scenic surroundings.
